Is my 12year old daughters Christmas list just ridiculous?

Her list:
$60 eyeshadow palette
$45 face primer
Michael kors purse and watch
$100 Hollister gift card
Victoria secret sweatpants
New iPhone

This is absurd. She wants me to spend that kind of money when she has a 5year old brother who also wants $120 worth of toys and stuff. She wants me to spend over $1k on her. She was not like this last year. She wants to be like the cheerleaders at school and it is driving me insane. She can't jump, do flips, and lacks flexibility. I really wish she would go back to playing softball. What did your 12year old daughter want? Should I just buy her Wal-Mart brand makeup, a purse from Wal-Mart, and Wal-Mart clothes?

Well, she is getting to be a teen and teen girls can be a troubling lot.

It is a good time to teach her about limits, and making intelligent choices. Tell her what the financial limit is (e.g., $100), and let her make choices within that limit. A good education opportunity - and a way to keep you sane.

Our daughter's are very similar- my daughter wanted the Michael Kors purse and matching wallet, along with the matching coat.

She wanted a new computer, a new bedroom suite, (hers is perfectly fine, not even two years old) a $150 VS gift card and a flat screen tv.

I told her to choose one thing from her list she truly wants and I would buy it for her, then buying 20 items that she will barely use. My daughter is 14, so she chose the purse and wallet. I was fine with that because then she will enjoy that one thing then a big pile of stuff.

Tell your daughter to pick one thing on that list that she would truly use, then something you would be wasting your money on.

No 12 year old needs 60 dollar eyeshadow and 45 dollar face primer.
Take her to a drug store and say until she has a job, this is her make up.

Tell her you have x amount of money to spend on her, make a list for that money.
When you win the lottery, you will spend that much money on her.
You do not have the money. Have her do her list over.

Do you spend that much on your make up?

It is too expensive for a girl that age and not geared for her preteen age

Yes, that list is absurd and isn't appropriate for a 12 year old.
When my sister turned 12 she didn't ask for anywhere like that at all!

She asked for a new television and some clothes. She barely ever wears makeup as she isn't a girly girl in the slightest.

She may have made that big list but only expects one or two items from there. From what I can see the items on her list have a huge price range. I would buy her the $60 eyeshadow and/or a Hollister gift card (doesn't have to be $100)

She wanted a new computer, a new bedroom suite, (hers is perfectly fine, not even two years old) a $150 VS gift card and a flat screen tv.
