Is my iPhone water damaged?

I have an iPhone 6S and it was under jacuzzi water (about 6-7 inches) for about 10-15 minutes. I'm drying it out with rice. What are the chances of water damage?

Added (1). The jacuzzi wasn't going at the time of drop.

Added (2). When I got it out of the water, the Raise to Wake thing was working and nothing seemed wrong with it. I shut it off before putting it in the rice.

Added (3). It's gone.

It's a dead soldier. There's a world of difference between standing water - dropping it in a sink or toilet (ew), and pressurized water jets (Jacuzzi). 6s have very low water resistance as it is, pressurized water is extremely likely to have gotten inside the device. While the rice trick can help, it's unlikely to do so in this case. Plus water people have been sitting in is likely filled with all sorts of… Stuff, and THAT, not the water itself, is actually what usually kills devices.

Incidentally, that is why the rice trick DOES work sometimes. Clean water is only dangerous when it's, well, wet (causes a short- and even then, PURE water is non-conductive, interesting trivia note). Once it's dried out/evaporated, it's harmless. Problem is water usually isn't that clean, and contains salt, minerals, fluoride, all sorts of stuff. If that debris settles onto the device PCB or vital components it can cause all sorts of havoc, like short circuits.

I would tend to say that Yes, it Is water damaged.

Leave it undisturbed in the rice for at least a Full Week, then see what it does.

You will need Exceptional Luck to have it work well enough that you don't need to replace it.

And I let God decide

Probably, but put it somewhere warm along with the rice.

Rice does not work. Take it to a good shop - and chances are that you are buying a new phone. I will add your story to my catalog of Really DUMB STUFF people do with phones. Spot Number One is still held by the person who dropped theirs in hot oil while frying chicken, and came HERE to ask if we though ti was gonna be OK. No, I'm not perfect - but I'm VERY careful around expensive equipment (professional classical musician).

Water damage chance, EXCELLENT!

  • Water damaged iphone (insurance claim)? I filed a claim with Asurion through verizon, I was required to pay 169$ for a replacement phone. the problem is that troubles me is that the only problem with the phone is that after it dropped in the water, the screen has a drip mark that won't go away, it won't turn off and there are some tones that don't play.other than that it works fine. what I'm asking is if the claim is still legitamate. It's still noticeable damage, but is it claim worthy noticeable damage?
  • Water damaged IPhone 4s. Is there hope? Today I idiotically fell into a pool with my iPhone in my pocket. It was submerged for about three seconds and afterward there was no display but it would still vibrate at messages and calls. I shook the water out of it immediately but I couldn't get it in rice for about 20 mins. I took out thr sim card and managed to turn off my phone and I'll let it sit in the rice for 24-48 hours. Is this just a lost cause or is there actually hope in me reviving my "child"

  • My iphone is water damaged, and the incident happened about a month or two ago? So if i were to try to fix it right now by blow drying it and by putting it in rice for a few hours, would there be a chance that it would work?
