Is polycarbonate a shock absorbing material?

I'm very interested in an iPhone case that is made from polycarbonate and I'm just worried about the shock absorption. I know it is a ver safe and durable material, but I'm worried about the shock absorption

Polycarbonate is one one of the best plastics for resisting shocks It is very tough & hard to break.
Whether it is good at absorbing shock is a different matter - lead is very good at absorbing impacts because the impact is absorbed by the lead's deformation, polycarbonate bounces back - hence my use of the word resisting

Polycarbonate is a very tough material. It is good at shock absorption. Certainly much better than the glass front and back on the phone.

  • Which is a better material for a case? Hi, I'm getting the new iphone and considering the price I want to give it plenty of protection Which case is the better at absorbing impact force and energy and preventing damage? A hard Durable plastic case? Or a Silicone gel Case?

  • What material is this iPhone case made of? I found this iPhone case that I would like to buy, but I don't want to buy another silicone case. Does anyone have it? The name of the case is "Music Monsters, A lot of them", and I found it on this Swedish site: http://www.teknikproffset.se/MOBIL/Apple-iPhone/Baksideskal/iPhone-4/Music-Monsters-design-skal-till-iPhone-4--4S--A-lo.htm. If you don't want to click the link you could just google the name.
