Is technological advancement slowing down?
Technology is advancing a lot and sure we have advanced from our primitive ways but is innovation and research slowing down? I'm mostly comparing our generation with the generation that had Albert Einstein at his prime, Marie Curie, Neils Bohr, and all the other scientists that were present at the Solvay Conference.
My theory is that every since we started worrying more about the individual with the iPhone, Facebook, pop culture, new-generation rap and hip-hop music and TV shows as well as the media, that our interest for scientific innovation and research has declined. Other factors could also include the wars that are happening around the world and political. Now I'm not saying that technology isn't advancing. It is. It's just not advancing in the direction that the early 19th and 20th century scientists were intending. What's your take on it?
Nobody csn predict the technology of the further, so ofcourse it is different than scientists predicted. The graph of technological advancement shows that it is still increasing as much as decades/a century ago. As normal people, who just don't see the advancement happening, and there are a lot of scientists that are as smart as einstein in the present.
Yes, well, I think it would depend upon exactly what you mean by "advancing".It appears that technology is expanding laterally more so than vertically at present. The period you refer to is one of vertical advancement. With the advent of electronics, it appears that everything under the sun is being given an electronics twist, but advances in other arenas seems not to prevail.
In other words technology appears to be mushrooming out at the top witrh electronics. In its day electronics was a boon to mankind (and still is) and was regarded rightlfully as a genuine new form of energy. What we need now then to give another boost to technology is another "new" form of energy.
Indeed such a new form of energy does actually exist but is not yet recognised by science or physics.
I have written a large book describing and explaining this genuine "new" energy, how it may be generated, and how it may be applied to the various fields of Man's endeavour. It represents the physics and technology o fthe future and will explain all manner of things which at present are regarded as mysterious. These would include ball lightning, the paranormal, poltergeist phenomena, SHC, and much more. Contact me at my icon… P
It's speeding up, if anything. More's Law for computer power describes an exponential increase with time, not a linear one. I've no doubt than any metric used (number of patents granted, papers published, smartphones sold, people working in technology jobs) will show an increase from year to year.
It's certainly true that predictions of the future are mostly wrong, so it would be surprising if we had advanced in the directions they had intended.
Of course, the Solvay Converences were after Michelson made his statement that "The more important fundamental laws and facts of physical science have all been discovered"
Technological advancement and research is absolutely not slowing down. In fact, research is in full gear, as engineers and researchers are in a race with time to come up with different and better energy sources for our rapidly growing population. Such research includes man made photosynthesis along with an abundance of other research topics essential to society's future.
- Will the iPhone 4S price go down? With AT&T, the iPhone 4S (32gb) is $199 instead of $299 with a discounted upgrade, I just talked to an employee. I heard that the iPhone 4S will go down in price $100 everywhere because of the iPhone 5. So, if I use my upgrade after the iPhone 5, will my discounted price be $99 instead of $199?

- How to see what apps are slowing the iPhone down? Jail broken or not, is there a way to see what apps are using so much RAM and causing force closes in apps?
