Is the iPhone 5S Touch ID mandatory?

I'm a user of an iPhone 4S, and I can upgrade to iPhone 5S next year's July, but there's one thing stopping me.
Not the price or anything(I'm buying it sim free) But, the Touch ID sensor.
Is it mandatory?
I mean, the idea is neat, but if it's mandatory then it's a deal-breaker for me.

I don't think so.

Since Touch ID button replaces the home button on your phone, its quite compulsory.

No its not mandatory.

@Karshim Kanwar: it did not replace the Home button. Its integrated into it. The Home button is still very much a part of the iPhone.

  • Will ios 7 for the iphone 5 be mandatory? I heard the ios 7 is coming out in the fall but I hate the look of it; that was one of the major reasons why I got my iphone. I love how it is now and I don't want to be forced to change back to exactly what I was trying to escape. Will there be any way I can still keep ios 6 and just never update my phone? Or will I have to eventually?
  • Should I buy the iPod Touch 6th gen, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6s? I have an iPod 5th get since December 2012. It is in rough shape now and I'm going to have to replace it in the next months. What should I get? (I also have a MacBook Pro 2014 btw) *Would it be ridiculous to buy an iPhone and not get a plan right away?
  • Problem with Iphone. How can I turn off without touch the Iphone? Yesterday I updated my Iphone to IOS 7.1.1 and today I was taking a photo with the Iphone blocked. When I finished I just hit the button at the top of the iphone. When I received a message, surprise, my Iphone was bugged and can't unblock. Tryed everything, I have 98% of battery and the touchscreen don't work for basics actions, like unblock or turn off the phone. Anyone know how to turn off the Iphone without the touchscreen?
  • Is there iphone water resistant cases that have touch if available for Iphone 6? I see many cases online that are water resistant, I'm wondering if you can use touch if with them and if there's some that you can with
