Is there problem with my iPhone 4's battery?
I have an iPhone 4 which I bought in October 2011. The battery only lasts for 2 or 3 hours on full charge. When I plug my phone to the wall charger, the percentage increases from 14% to 21% immediately. Is this a problem with my phone's battery or are there any ways to fix this?
It could be one of two reasons, both have been well documented.
Reason 1 - Inaccurate Battery Counter Firmware
There's firmware inside the phone that interacts with the battery itself to determine a rough estimate of the battery power left on the phone. This is a rough estimate and can be ±5 off the actual value (meaning, if the iPhone says you have 25% battery, you may actually be within the 20 to 30 range). The accuracy wears off over time, but I can tell you right now that this isn't the issue.
The issue here is that you probably have not made a full discharge of your phone for a while. A full discharge means that you start with your phone charged to 100%, and use it until it dies itself. Then, you plug it back in to charge and leave it charged without interruption back to 100%. If you did this correctly, the accuracy of the battery percentage should be more fine-tuned. If not, then this may be Reason 2.
Reason 2 - Bad Battery, time for replacement.
Batteries are not forever. The truth is, even from the moment you start using the phone you already lose an infinitesimal amount of efficiency. If you tend to leave your phone plugged in, or discharge it TOO frequently, then the battery has already lost it's efficiency. A battery is considered worn out after 1000 to 2000 full charge cycles, in which efficiency drops to less than 80%. In such a case, accuracy of the battery percentage doesn't matter anymore. The battery is whack.
Reason 2 is a last resort issue. Some people suggest to try other intensive tasks like resetting the iPhone back to factory settings, but again, battery issues is firmware based, not software. There isn't all that much a software reset can do, but you can try that after you try troubleshooting with Reason 1, which tends to be the most common issue.
A battery replacement for the 4 can range from $80 to $300 depending on location and physical status of the phone.
That happens when the battery is damaged and needs replacement.

- Problem with iPhone battery? My iPhone 3GS is going dead anywhere from 29-34% battery life. It's done it for two days. Looked online for an answer and all I could find was to do a hard reset which did not work. After it dies, if I try to turn it back on it shows the dead battery with the charging symbol. When I charge it, it comes back on and says the same percentage it said when it went dead. It's like the phone recognizes 29% as 0. What's the problem?
- Iphone battery/charger problem? So I have this Iphone 4s for about 3/4 months now an one night before i went sleep i put it on charge then when i wake up it was dead. I placed it on charge the icon show on top it was charging but not in middle. And it took forever to charge an battery drain fast as hell, and now its stuck on 1% I think I tried one of the reset where reset the media and etc.
- Iphone and ipad problem! Music transferring problem I have an iphone 4s and an ipad mini. I'm having a music tranferring problem. On my phone i have a bunch of songs and i turned of home sharing with my friend. So i got all of her songs to. i'm ok with that.anyways on my ipad i have all the songs I bought. I want to get all the songs i hve on my phone to my ipad. I don't know how though. I use the same apple id and everything. On my ipad i went to songs not on ipad folder but found nothing?
- Iphone 4s Wi-Fi problem? Anybody else have this problem? So i have an iphone 4s from bell canada. Its a great phone but i have a problem with my Wi-Fi. when i turn my Wi-Fi ON it will work fine. But after 4 or 5 minutes continuous working, it will stop working. and i have to turn it OFF and then turn it ON again for later browsing. i can't even see the full length youtube video of 5 minutes, because it will stop working in the mid of the video any help
