Is unlocking an iPhone worth it?
I have a pretty good grandfathered plan at AT&T and I want to keep it. But my friend just gave me a new iPhone 4s that works on Sprint. So my question is…
Is it worth to unlock an iPhone?
How long does it take? Is it safe for my phone (what are the risks)?
Will I just be able to walk into AT&T with my unlocked phone and have it activated to my plan?
Unlocking your iPhone will void you warranty, otherwise your good to go! Just go get your phone activated, and you have yourself a new phone!
Unlocking phones does not void the warranty. I think you are confusing it with jailbreaking. It also would raise the resell value of the phone.
Yes it is safe. Apple sells them unlocked from the box (my last 2 iPhones were bought like this).

You can't unlock a sprint phone and use it on ATT under most circumstances, as sprint is CDMA (no sim) and ATT is GSM (sim). If the phone has a sim spot, then you should be able to unlock… Unlocking takes minutes, however I suggest buying an unlock on ebay if you are going to unlock.

- Unlocking sim for iPhone 3gs? Ok, so I've been having a lot of trouble with trying to unlock my iPhone. I jail-broke my phone a month ago and I have cydia and all that stuff, and I don't think that's what you use to unlock the simcard. Maybe it has something to do with the firmware? It's 05.16.05.
