ITunes error 3194 when I try to downgrade my 3GS from ios 6 to 5?

I have an iPhone 3GS and decided to update it to iOS 6. I had many difficulties with the new version including no service so I decided to downgrade back to iOS 5. I did this by going on iTunes, clicking restore and shift then selecting the ISPW file for iOS 5.It started by extracting the file, then it was loading and an error came up. 'unknown error 3194' this does not happen when I update to iOS 6 just when I try to downgrade! I have tried many methods involving the 'hosts' file and on Tinyumbrella but none has worked, I'm basically stuck. Someone help me please.
