Laptop loses broadband connection?

We recently bought a refurbished (good condition) laptop for the children which has been working for several weeks until now. Every time they connect to the Internet (BT broadband) it cuts out and the orange light flashes until we disconnect it. We have another laptop, iPhone and BT Vision which all work well without any loss of connection. What is wrong with our new laptop?

Have you tried connecting your laptop to your router via an ethernet cable? (google images it if you don't know what it is-they're very distinctive) If the internet works then, either your router isn't transmitting properly or your laptop can't connect due to some internal problem. Also, try checking under wireless/connections in control panel- if it's turned off, turn it on and if it says you're connected to a network but the internet doesn't work try disconnecting and reconnecting. If all that doesn't work, maybe try returning it?

If that first answer doesn't help here might be some other solutions:

*Maybe your neighbor is broadcasting their network on the same channel
(It means like your Wi-Fi is Channel "11" and so is theirs, if you don't know what this means… Google is your friend)

*Maybe your phone is interfering with your router, this is a bit rare but happens
(Try connecting first normally, unplug all the Home phones and try connecting. If you connect while the phones are off that means your phone is interfering with the router. Search YoUTube for howto fix "Phone Interfering with Router, howto fix")

*hope this helps.

  • Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues? My wireless works fine with my iPad and iPhones. But then I try to connect it to my Windows 7 desktop, and it says that it's experiencing connectivity issues? I have the Ethernet cable hooked up to the main router, then my wireless, then into the computer. I've tried restarting them both at the same time, but it's still having the same issue?
  • What Router do i need for my Mobile Broadband to become Wi-Fi? Basically i have purchased a Mobile Broadband USB stick from EE to share it with my iPhone at work (i get no signal at work with O2 and i've only just started new contract/job). What router will i need to make the mobile broadband a Wi-Fi connection for my iphone?
  • Tesco broadband. Can I get a stronger Wi-Fi signal? I have Tesco unlimited broadband. It works fine but was wondering if anyone else has trouble with a weak signal when you are say 10-15 meters away through a couple of walls? My laptop picks up 2 out of 5 bars in signal but my iPhone 5 gets nothing at all. Could I upgrade my router? And if so, what would be a good one? Is there such a thing as a signal strength chart or anything like that? Just thought I'd ask.
