Looking for a way to evenly share network speed in a house network?

So my problem is that I play games online, that need a good ping. Whenever anyone from any other computer goes to load a video on youtube in a high quality, it takes up all the speed, gives me more than 400 ping and just pretty much cuts everyone else out. Is there a way to share the network evenly between every user? Our download speed is about 6mb/s, so if we have 4 active users, i'd like it to share it like 1.5mb/s each.

You can't do that with home style routers. Only commercial gear, or Linux based firewalls can control bandwidth on all network devices (regardless if a PC, tablet, iPhone, etc.)

That said, check if your router has QoS. Set your machine to a high priority, and everyone else to a low priority. That way, you still get preference for bandwidth when others are on, instead of "first come-first served". Without knowing the router you have, no one can say for sure if you even have QoS, and if you do, we can't help with suggestions as to how to set it. Some one is eating all the Wi-Fi turn all Wi-Fi eating off on that particular device. Upgrade your connection 6mb is very poor for 4 people It sounds like you need to communicate with each other, and negotiate reasonable use.

So, when someone wants to download, they warn everyone, who gets off for the time it takes. Then others can do their thing.

If y take the advice of changing the settings to make yourself always have priority, you will set off a family war. Do not do that. Your family has to work something out, agreeable to all.

Be reasonable. Given the limitations, everyone can't have everything they want all the time.

Find things to do when one thing uses up all the bandwidth. Come to agreement about when each of you gets priority.

Members of a family need to share a scarce resource, without bloodshed. Some routers do have some basic settings… Priority settings… High / medium / low that you can assign to all devices… But that doesn't change the fact that with just 6 megs download for 4 devices… That don't cut the cake… For game playing / movie watching you need at least 10 meg on the download side each…
