MacBook Air won't recognise iPhone 5 or USB?

I have a MacBook Air that is less than a year old with version OS X 10.8.4. I also have an iPhone 5s and 5c. I have tried to plug in both phones to sync with my laptop and it isn't reading them nor is it charging them like usual. I plugged in my internet dongle and that also didn't read anything. What is wrong? And how can I fix it?

I have no idea what an Internet dongle is. All Macs have every possible hardware part needed for Internet connection built right into them. They do not ever need any dongle.

As for the phones, buy a new cable…

  • Why won't my Macbook Air let me import my videos on my iPhone to Photos? I just went to a concert last night and I took a few videos and I would like to add to my photos library but they are not importing. Does anybody know why this happens?

  • My iphone won't recognise the sim? I just updated my iphone to the latest ios and now it won't recognise the sim. Actually i had it unlocked… But it is not jailbroken. Is it a serious thing? Is my phone locked again?
  • My iphone 4s won't recognise my sim? I have just got an iphone 4s off ebay - it specified that it was locked onto the o2 network - i cut my original sim from my blackberry using a micro sim cutter so it would fit the iphone, it's needs to be set up for the first time but it isn't letting me complete the activation as the sim is not being registered. I also ensured that the sim was removed of all pin codes. Why isn't my sim being recognised?
