My iphone 4s won't recognise my sim?

I have just got an iphone 4s off ebay - it specified that it was locked onto the o2 network - i cut my original sim from my blackberry using a micro sim cutter so it would fit the iphone, it's needs to be set up for the first time but it isn't letting me complete the activation as the sim is not being registered. I also ensured that the sim was removed of all pin codes. Why isn't my sim being recognised?

Its locked to the original sim card.
its just an ipod now unless you can get the original carrier to unlock it.
if you need an factory unlocked iphone, email me i have a few

call the carrier and see if they will unlock it, most won't, or get the active original carrier sim card.\, you still won't be able to use it on your carrier but you can get past the activation screen and use it as an ipod touch.

Because he phone is locked. That means you ed to use the same since card as the engine provider. So let's say the locked phone was for sprint and you have a verizon. Sim card. It won't be compatible. You will need a sprint sim. Card
