Is this MacBook Pro suitable for what I want to use it for? (Spec in full details)?

I'm looking to buy a macbook to complete all of my coursework on… I decided on a macbook as I have an iPhone and it would be useful to have an apple computer so I can keep my phone up to date easily too.

All I really want to use the MacBook for is to update my phone when it is needed, to complete and store all of my course work on and just for simple web browsing.

This is the spec:
MacBook Pro 2009
2.8 ghz intel core 2 duo
4gb 1067 MHz ddr3

I have no idea when it comes to computers! Clueless! So could somebody help me out? Is this going to be fast enough and efficient enough for what I want it for?

Yep, fine and dandy., but of course, we do not have the foggiest notion what "course work" means.
