My headset has static in the background?

The headset works fine when plugged into my Iphone but when I plug it into my computer I hear static in the background and its annoying, how do I fix it? What's the problem?

The problem is transient voltages in your computer. There are a few things you can do to reduce or eliminate noise.

* Make sure the power's grounded properly
* Get a surge protector, or even better get an UPS
* Get a separate sound card
* Make sure that the headset cord is as far away as possible from any cables running power - into the computer or otherwise.

I get the same problem when I'm listening to music and charging my phone in my car all the time.

what it is, is that both end's are sending out electric signals.weither it be the headphones or the charger.

only way to fix it is to keep both cords completely away from each other or only have 1 plugged in.

BTW this is fixed in the new iphone 5 (i helped design it) there's a separator in the middle and both ends are isolated off to prevent this from happening.

  • Static when sound plays on laptop? 8 hours ago my computer was fine. I closed it for the night and didn't turn it on until 9 this morning. There's suddenly this mild but annoying static noise occuring when sound plays through the laptop speakers and through my headphones that I plugged in, so I'm pretty sure it is not a hardware issue. My laptop is an MSI gs70 laptop. I tried the headphones in my iphone and they worked fine, so I know the headphones aren't messed up.

However when I listen to them on my iphone 4s I normally hear a static sound or muffing sound. I have a Klipsch S3 headphone.
