My Internet is connected but not working
So I'm on my iPhone right now, but my laptop is saying its connected but it won't work whenever i try to go to a site it says it can't connect meanwhile my laptop says its connected! I don't know if there's some thing wrong with my connection or not and btw I have wireless network can I fix this? I have stuff that needs to be done!
I would think that first of all you should reset your modem by disconnecting it for longer than 10 sec then try it again if that doesn't work make sure that the cables from your modem are tightly secured to your wall if that doesn't work then you should call your service provider for help and if there's a storm your signal my be blocked by it
Okay. So your laptop says its connected but what is the state that the connection is in? If you see a yellow icon on the wireless symbol in the tray, then that means its "limited". This is usually an indicator that the router or modem does not have an IP address. You can be fully connected to the router, but the issue could be with the modem.
Try this:
1) Turn off router and modem.
2) Wait 30 seconds - I know its rough, I know it sounds stupid, just wait the full 30 seconds.
3) Turn on modem and wait 1 minute, that's 60 seconds, again, just do it.
4) Turn on the router and wait for all green lights.
5) Try the connection again.
This is a 100% fail proof method of regaining a proper IP address from your provider. By waiting so long to turn on the router, you give the modem ample time to connect and gain a downstream (but have no where to send it), so when you power on the router, its reading a fully ready configuration from the modem and instantly starts working.
If all that fails, do a hard-reset on your router. There should be a tiny button the rear that can only be depressed by an ink-pen tip or something similar. You don't need to turn anything off to do this, once the router is in reset mode it will automatically default to manufacturers settings, and drop any custom DNS settings or something that could have gone awry.
