My iPhone connects to Wi-Fi but doesn't use it?
I just bought an iPhone 5 on StraightTalk. The problem is I can get it to connect to my home Wi-Fi router but it won't actually use the connection; it just sits on a loading screen for everything I do. 3G however, works just fine. The phone connects to other Wi-Fi sources and uses them normally, so I know it's not the phone. But I have other devices that connect to the Wi-Fi normally, so I'm not sure it's the router either. I just switched from Verizon and the iPhone 4 I had with it had the exact same problem. I have a Belkin router that gets its Internet from a modem connected to cable Internet. I don't think the modem is the problem however because I've never had an issue with it before. Any ideas?
Delete your home Wi-Fi from your pref and try connecting again. You should also login to your router and check that the ssid and password and the method of authentication is setup correctly. Are you sure you are connected to your home Wi-Fi? It could be your neighbors'. Hmm.cheers.
I'm positive it's my Wi-Fi. At home only 2 sources appear when I go to connect, and I can tell the difference. Plus they both have passwords and I only know the one for mine. But I will try your idea.
With my blackberry, I had to ask my cell carrier how to connect to Wi-Fi. There's some configuration involved. They sent me a PDF showing me how to do it. It was basically short.
your router should be set for mixed encryption if it has that.otherwise, try WPA2 on the router first, WPA next, then WEP. I had to connect manually because auto-connecting on devices is sometimes broken.
Belkin? Get a different router. I had nothing but problems with my belkin n+. That could be your problem right there. I had similar issues with a belkin (broken/semi-broken connections, the ISP I had wasn't on their "fixed list", etc).
the linksys E4200 is a good router (discontinued, 802.11b/g/n) and has mixed encryption, you can probably pick one up off of ebay.update the firmware.
the netgear n6300 is also good but costs $200.again, update the firmware.
- Wi-Fi connects but internet doesn't work? I'm staying at a hotel this week. There's free Wi-Fi. My friend's phone and laptop are connected and working, as are my sister's. However, both my iPhone and my iPod are "connected" to the network, but the internet doesn't actually work. It's very stressful. What do I do.
- Why does when the iphone 4 connects to the internet, the Wi-Fi lags? Whenever my sisters iphone connects to the internet and i play a online game league of legends for example, i get a very high ping and i start to disconnect and reconnect. Could you help me fix this. Oh btw, my sister won't get off and shut her iphone down.
- What should I do so that my iphone connects to known Wi-Fi automatically? So recently I reset my network settings as someone said that I should do that to lose a problem (my phone was giving me two text alerts when I've only received one. Yes I checked the notifier already which I put to never) so that problem is solved but now everytime I get home, I have to key back in my Wi-Fi password whereas last time it would automatically connect. I've been resetting my network settings a few times but nothing has changed.
- What is the device called that connects your iphone to your car stereo to play music? I want to buy the device that connects your iphone to your car stereo to play music that is on your phone (such as pandora). I need it for my long drive back to college. p.s. I just got an iphone and i'm iphone-illiterate.
