My iphone has unlimited data, can I connect my laptop to it?

My iphone has unlimited data, can I connect my laptop to it? How can I set it to be a hotspot and do it charge more?

Here is a "how to" from Apple Support.

Your phone carrier must support this option. It might cost more money but you can check with them.

Hope this helps,

If your iPhone enables " Personal HotSpot" feature, then the answer is YES you can have internet on your laptop.

The way to do that is to:

-From the home screen, select Settings.
-Select General.
-Select Cellular.
-Select Set Up Personal Hotspot.
-The Personal Hotspot activation process may take 1-2 minutes.
-Once the activation process is complete, select Personal Hotspot.
-Verify Personal HotSpot is enabled.
-Note Drag the Personal HotSpot switch to ON to enable.
-If prompted, select the appropriate setting.
-Turn on Wi-Fi button on your laptop
-Personal HotSpot available over Bluetooth, USB, and Wi-Fi
-Bluetooth and USB only
-Personal Hotspot available over Bluetooth and USB only
-Note The USB connection will be visible in the computer's network connections. To verify the connection ---refer to Verifying Connected Networks - Macintosh or Verifying Connected Networks - Windows.
-The Personal HotSpot name is displayed within quotes beneath the Personal HotSpot switch.
-Note e.g. Other users can look for your shared network using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth under the name --displayed in quotes (e.g. 15-4-1391).
-The Wi-Fi Password is displayed in the Wi-Fi password field.
-Note To change the password, select the Wi-Fi Password field.
-Enter or edit the Wi-Fi password then select Done.
-Note The Wi-Fi password must contain at least eight characters.

Hope that helps!

  • What can I do to keep my unlimited data plan on Verizon and upgrade to the iPhone 5? Now I already know that I can buy one full price from Verizon for about $649 but I don't want to go that route, and I don't want to buy a subsidized iPhone 5 and end up losing my unlimited data plan. Would I be able to just wait and buy a used iPhone 5 after it comes out and then have them activate the phone on my account? They wouldn't be able to take away my unlimited data would they?
  • One laptop can connect to our home Wi-Fi network but no other devices can connect? We recently set up a wireless internet connection in our house. One laptop can connect to it (the one I'm currently on) but no other devices can connect to it. It says our "Network Security Key" is mismatched. I have tried typing in all the different codes on both the router and modem on both our second laptop and an iPhone 5. How can I fix this?
  • My Wi-Fi won't connect on my laptop but will connect to my other devices (an iPhone and iPad)? I have a MacBook Air. Sometimes it does connect but other times it just won't. It takes ages connecting and then in the end comes up with the exclamation mark or is just blank. Is this a problem with my laptop? I've tried researching the problem but have found nothing.
  • If my laptop has bluetooth, and I connect it to my iphone, does it use my data? Depending on where I'm I don't have Wi-Fi connection, but my laptop is able to connect to things with Bluetooth. If I connect it to my iPhone, is it going to use my 3G? Is my phone bill going to skyrocket? This laptop was given to me so I never even knew you could connect a laptop to a phone, so any kind of info would be appreciated! Thanks I'd use it for internet access.
