My iPhone says its connected to a Wi-Fi network but isn't?

When I go to my Wi-Fi settings it will say its connected. But my phone still says its using 3G what to do so I don't use all my data?

There should be an option in setting that lets u turn off your 3G

IPhone? Sorry guy, I'm a Samsung man but will try;

There's a chance that is it is connected to both that the signal from the Wi-Fi and 3G because the signal strength is not good enough to stay connected or it still requires authentication before it fully switches, so go into settings and double check you have entered the correct password for the router and make sure the IP address matches.

If this is not the case then In settings somewhere (Don't know iPhone settings exactly but should be under either Wi-Fi settings or advanced settings) there should be an option to change mobile networks, make sure that is set to auto mode or else it might lock it to 3G (options being auto/GPRS/WCDMA) this might be under mobile networks. Next try changing a Wi-Fi setting, there's an option to turn Wi-Fi off during sleep or to completely disable it, make sure the option is "always on" and make sure it is selected, it could be disabled and still try to connect, it will just disable bandwidth from the router.

Finally if that does not work then try completely disabling mobile networks and connect to the router, this is last resort and should be reactivated after you finished using the router

If all fails then there's a fault in the phone, but like I said, i'm a Samsung guy and don't know lots about iPhones

Forget that Wi-Fi network then reconnect

  • My iPhone says its up to date but its not? I have the iPhone 4s and every time I go into settings-general-software update, it says my software is up to date with iOS 6.1.3! All my friends have gotten iOS 7 already! Why doesn't mine say I need to update to iOS 7! And how can I make it say that? And I know that the iPhone 4s can get it.
