My paypal got hacked and I'm underage?

Okay, I made a PayPal account so that I could sell an iPhone on eBay. I sold it, spent the money etc.

I checked my email yesterday and… I had an email from PayPal saying that my password had been changed.

Yeah. Basically, the hacker spent £170 and I didn't have the money for that. So my bank account had -£170. I rang my bank yesterday to explain and they SUPPOSEDLY closed my PayPal account and my bank balance was restored. However, I have received an email today telling me to RESTORE MY ACCOUNT BALANCE on PayPal.

Obviously, I don't have this money. I'm fifteen and I don't have a job. To top it off, my PayPal account is limited. Woo hoo.

So I have a few questions.

1) What will PayPal do?

2) Would they take me to court if I don't pay it off?

3) Could I involve the police or not? My account is illegal after all since I'm not 18.

4) Would PayPal tell me the IP Address of the hacker so I could hand it to the police?

Dispute all transactions within your account and mark them as 'Stolen Account/Fraud' or such and you most likely should be refunded. If the hacker purchased physical goods then most likely they will be getting in trouble with the police as they have the address.

Call PayPal aswell and just talk with a rep and ask for more help on what to do. There's no reason for you to be paying things that you got hacked of.

Good luck, man. I'm 15 aswell and have a PayPal, never dealt with hackers though. Make sure you have a strong password.

1.) Probably try to get your money back
2.) No but technically your not supposed to have a paypal until 18 so they would ask your parents
3.) No but your parents would have to know about it
4.) No they would probably take care of that

Well, first of all, if PayPal knew the hacker's IP address, they would have gone after them in the beginning. Since you're not old enough to actually have a PayPal account, that's actually PayPal's fault for not having something in place that would identify you as being a minor. I'm sure the police will be involved since this was a theft, but they'll be limited as to the time they can spend on this because this person is likely from another country and can't be touched. It's probably really going to be up to PayPal from this point on. Since you're only 15, they may not be able to do much about making you repay the money. You may be restricted from ever having a PayPal account in the future however. That may be worse punishment! Get a parent to help you out of this mess. They may be able to deal with PayPal better than you can or would be allowed to. This should serve as a lesson to you of what can happen when you circumvent the rules that have been established by a business.
