My son got my husbands iPhone wet?

I went into the bathroom and my son had my husbands new iphone in the sink with water running over it. I don't know how long it was in the sink but I took it out and immediately put it in a bowl of rice. It was still on. My husband came out of the shower and took a look at it. It was still functioning so he shut it off and put it back in the rice for a few hours. He turned it back on and everything seemed ok. That was about a week ago. No problems at all. And suddenly in the middle of the night it switched off. Won't take a charge either. I have it now sitting in a baggie of jasmine rice (all I have on hand) and everything I've read says to leave it there for a few days. Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation. I need some feedback.

When that happens, always make sure to remove the battery and have it in rice as well.

Hopefully it's only the battery which is causing a malfunction (simple fix - replacement).
If the problem persists, take the phone to your phone company and see what they can do for you.

Well, the other answerer would be correct IF the battery in the iPhone was user-replacable.

If it was my iPhone that happened to, I would probably take it apart to let the inside dry out, and possibly disconnect the battery… Weather or not the rice thing really works is up to debate, and the iPhone is fairly well sealed, but it does sound like some water got in a possibly corroded a terminal or something… Might need to go to the Apple store. Try to go when it's busy, and play dumb… Don't mention that "you think it got wet". Simply say it stopped working.

There are indicators that turn from white to pink when they get wet, but maybe they won't have time to check, or maybe the indicator itself didn't get wet.
