New devices won't connect to Wi-Fi?

Our house has BT Infinity, and apart from a few disconnection problems every now and then it seems to be fine on our devices, (computer, laptops, phones etc.) but when somebody now brings a tablet into our house they can't connect. We type in the password but the connection never appears to complete. Android devices state that the device is 'Obtaining IP address'. The most recent problem is that I have purchased an iPhone 5 which will not connect, and since I only have 1GB of data this is a problem. Is there any fix?

This is complicated Issue and maybe some people don't why this problem is causing?
Same happened to me in college with my Arnova 7b G3 Tablet i connect to Wi-Fi still 'Obtaining IP address' lol then after an half an hour ~ 40 Min its Connected WOW then after a month i brought a Samsung Mobile also same Andriod Ice Cream Sandwich IT WORKED

Some devices and routers simply will not work properly together over a Wi-Fi connection. I have a Wi-Fi webcam that would not connect to my old BT Home Hub 1, but since I have switched to BT Infinity with a Home Hub 4 it works. I have also tried it with a BT Home Hub 2 and it worked with that router.

I had the reverse situation happen with my laptop. It worked fine with the HH1 and with an HH2, but would not work with the HH4. I disabled its own Wi-Fi adapter and plugged in a miniature USB Wi-Fi dongle, and it now works fine.

As you are experiencing problems with so many devices, I suspect it is not a router/device mismatch problem, but something more fundamental.

Log on to the router, and check the encryption mode and encryption key it is using. Are these identical to the settings that you are using for the new devices? An extra space in an encryption key is not easy to detect, but will prevent the connection from working. Make sure that you are using the correct upper and lower case letters. Commas and fullstops can be misread.

Check that the router has its DHCP service enabled. If your existing devices are using static addresses then the absence of a DHCP service is not important, but it will affect new devices unless they are also set on static addresses.

Has the router been set with a limited DHCP address pool? Are you running out of addresses for the router to allocate?

On your laptop, if it is using Windows Vista or later, create a restore point, then delete the wireless connection to your router and try recreating it. If this does not work, then there's something wrong with the keys you are using. You can use the restore point to get back to where you were.

Is your router using the recommended WPA/WPA2 encryption option?

Have you tried changing the channel that the router is using? By default, BT Home Hubs automatically select what they think is the best channel, but this is only at the hubs location. It might be different just a few feet away. Try manually setting different channels to see if it makes a difference.

It sounds like a DHCP problem. Try setting up a tablet with a static address. For the standard BT router at its default settings, any address between

192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.63
or
192.168.1.238 and 192.168.1.252

should be available. Try setting up a tablet to use static settings such as:

IP address 192.168.1.30
Gateway 192.168.1.254
Both DNS addresses to be the same as the gateway.

I hope something in this answer helps you solve your problem.

  • Wi-Fi won't connect to some devices? I recently moved into a new condo complex. The place comes with Wi-Fi, but the Wi-Fi will only connect to my iPhone and ipad. It won't even show up to my laptop, my roommates MacBook, or my PS3. The router is an all in one router/modem. Any ideas why it works perfectly with some devices, but I can't even see it on other devices?
  • Why won't my internet connect apple devices? My internet will not connect to any apple device, weather its iPods or iPhones, it doesn't work, although what puzzles me is that it works with my friends Samsung. What should i do?
  • Why won't my Devices connect to my home Wi-Fi? My HP Touchpad, Blackberry Torch and my moms Kobo and iPhone 4 won't connect to our home Wi-Fi.our computer and my iPod are fine. When we try to connect it say it can't find the IP address. They all work on other networks. We have a WEP network, or something like that.
  • Why won't my devices connect to my internet? I have XFinity Wi-Fi and it is password protected. It doesn't reach throughout my whole house so I plugged a Netgear router to extend it. Netgear works fine but whenever I connect to my main network, it doesn't work. Also, I just updated my computer to Windows 10 and it won't work with my Wi-Fi. It will go to websites I go to a lot but nothing else. It works with my iPhone network, but not my home one. Anyone know what's going on?
