New Sim Card and Receiving Messages?

I recently lost my phone (iPhone) and i'm getting a new one in a couple weeks when my contract is up, i no longer have my sim card but the service to the phone is still turned on, once i get a new phone, and a new sim card will i receive text messages that were sent to me in the time period when i didn't have a phone since i will still have the same number, or will i never receive the messages

No your messages will not be delivered to your new phone, but there's always other ways of communication

You will not get those messages. If you had any of the back-up systems on your phone sometimes those will save your texts to their website. (Lookout is my favorite of this kind of app but there's Wavesecure and Norton also.)

I would suggest calling At&t (or your carrier, but I assume At&t because you said SIM card) to suspend your service because if someone finds you phone they could call China for hours just to screw with you or text your friends etc etc.
