Once an IPhone 6 has been factory reset can it be traced?
So I got this phone off a friend for a low price since it was locked (obviously and honestly I feel like it's was stolen or he found it) any ways i removed the sim card, go on my mac and manage to factory restart it. I had to reinsert the sun for a while to activate it but then took it out and have had it in airplane mode. I've never regretted anything this bad and just want to know if there's a chance it can be traced like thru the mac I used restart it or me having the sun card in to register for a little. I already feel bad enough as it is please don't comment what a bad choice I made or to return it bc I already know that.
If the original/legal owner of the device configured it right, it can be very easily tracked.
If he did not configure it right, he can't track it on his own, but law enforcement officers can.
All he needs to do is file a theft report to the police and present the original proof of purchase.
ALL phones, even cheap **** phones, have an IMEI number associated with them,
READ MORE ABOUT IMEI HERE: https://en.wikipedia.org/...t_Identity
This is a unique code, and can't be changed. It's tied up to the device, not the SIM card.
To make matters worse for you, the iPhone has a pretty accurate GPS subsystem.
Law enforcement will remote-activate the GPS on your phone (they can do this if they have proof of theft), and then track your exact location, right to your room.
However, if the original owner did not set up his anti theft properly, and then did not complain to the police after losing a pretty expensive device, maybe you'll not get caught. But the day he complains to the police, you're doomed.
You have three options now:
1>Return the phone back to your friend and ask him to refund your money.
2>Throw the phone away.
3>Use it OFFLINE for its entire lifetime. Never insert a SIM card and never connect to Wi-Fi. Use it as a camera and a music/video player.
Yes, it can be traced thanks to activation lock, which can't be removed by a factory reset.
- Will the MAC address of my iPhone reset if I reset my iPhone to its factory settings over iTunes? I have jailbroken my device and used terminal to change my MAC address so that I could connect to school's Wi-Fi. But when I wanted to change it to its initial number, I typed in a wrong value and it just messed up my Wi-Fi, I can't connect to Wi-Fi anymore. Wonder if resetting to factory settings would help…
- If I restore/reset iphone 6s will sim card info be removed with factory reset? Got this iphone and I know someone who wants to buy it off me, should i leave the sim card? Will erased if i factory reset the phone?
- How to unlock an iphone 4s which has been reset? I have just bought a 4s from a friend. I reset the phone for a fresh start and, while going through the setup process, the phone doesn't recognise the sim. The original owner is going to get an unlock code from the old carrier (3) but without a 3 sim to put into the phone, how can I get through the setup process and unlock it? I don't have access to my friend's old sim BTW.
- How to unlock an iPhone 3GS that has been reset to factory settings? My friend gave me her old iPhone 3GS. I reset it to the factory settings and was planning on taking it in to Tmobile to have it hooked up. My problem is i can't get in to any settings or anything now since it was restored. The only thing on the screen is the unlock slider and once you do that it just says emergency call and the little i symbol with the IMEI number. Can I unlock it from here somehow so I can use it?
