Optimum Wi-Fi works on iPhone but not on macbook?

Ok so my friend gave me his optimum Wi-Fi about a month ago. It's been working great but today the Wi-Fi stopped working on my MacBook Pro. It works fine on my iPhone PS3 and tablet. What's the problem?

IP address clash on the local network, check the dhcp page and attached devices page

You didn't say which OS version or age of computer, so these are some general steps to try:

-- Turn off the power for all devices (iPhone, PS3, tablet, whatever), and shut down the MacBook Air.
- Unplug the Wi-Fi router.
- Wait 45 seconds.
- Plug in the router.
- Wait another 45 seconds.
- Start the MacBook Air, but do not turn on any other devices.
- Click the Wi-Fi "fan" icon at top menu bar, and see if your home Wi-Fi network name appears. Then choose it.

If that doesn't solve it, pick up the MacBook Air and take it to Starbucks. If it works at Starbucks, call your ISP for help doing a >HARD< reset of the modem / router.

If the MacBook Air fails to connect to Starbucks network, remove the preference files for networking like this:
Go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration…
and trash each of these files.
preferences.plist
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
com.apple.nat.plist

Next, go to /Library/Preferences/
Trash com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
Also, trash com.apple.networkConfig.plist

Next, in Finder, press command shift G and type…
~/Library/Preferences
and then click "Go".
Trash com.apple.internetconnect.plist
Also, trash com.apple.systempreferences.plist

If you want to Add Update to your question for all to notice, click the PENCIL icon and choose "Add Update". The "Comments" button is to add personal comments to just one answer, such as "I like your explanation".

  • Wi-Fi works on my Laptop.but not on my iPhone? I've done what I could to see what the problem was. I "Forget this network" on my iphone under Wi-Fi settings and tried to reconnect and nothing. Interestingly, At the beginning of connection, FB, Google and some random sites will go through but others won't. I don't understand what the issue could be?
  • Wi-Fi not connecting to MacBook Pro but is connected to iPhone 4S? My MacBook Pro 10.8.5 I just got it last year isn't connecting to the Wi-Fi. My phone is connected though. I'm a college student so I'm connected to the schools Wi-Fi and no one else that I've spoken to has this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
  • Sim works in my old phone but not in the iphone? I'm getting my dads iPhone and I have a sim on a different contract when I put it in the iPhone it doesn't come up even though the iPhone is unlocked from the previous network it used
  • My wireless network works for my iPhone, but not for me laptop? My laptop says that it is connected to the Wi-Fi network (with full connectivity), but then when I try to open a webpage, it won't load. My internet works on my iPhone, so I know this isn't a problem with the router. I've already tried restarting the router, but this hasn't worked.
