Out of country text charges for iMessage?

I'm in Costa Rica and my boyfriend is in the us. If we text using iMessage because we both have iPhones, will there be a charge for sending or receiving messages?
Ps I have Verizon and he has AT&T

Both of you should download textme. It is a free app in the istore and you can text between 40 different countries for free. It will never be applied towards your text limits either.

Here's the link for your use.

  • My iphone is sending out text messages instead of imessage? I checked Apple and iMessage is still working. I have iMessage turned on, SMS turned off and my send and receive addresses are correct. But my iMessages are all sending as texts!
  • Long distance charges when texting from own country? So I'm in Canada where I'm from and my friend who is also from Canada is in the states right now. We both have iPhones so I know we can use iMessage and not be charged and I know if she texts me she will be charged but if I text her from Canada to the US wil I be charged? Also I'm with Bell.
  • If you send texts to someone who's out of the country will it charge per text? I have a iphone and so does my boyfriend and he's been in jamaica for the past few days and I've been sending him texts throughout the day just cause I miss him, but would that cost him extra money even though it's sending as a text message and not an imessage?
  • If iMessage someone in another country, will I get charged? Me and a friend both have iPhones but I live in Canada and she lives in the US and I can't text her because of long distance charges. Right now, I'm using a shitty texting app to text her but from my knowledge i can iMessage her with Wi-Fi. But I'm out a lot and not always connected to my home Wi-Fi but I do have data, but will iMessaging with my data charge me because of my carrier?
