What is the point of watching sports?
Please understand that this is NOT a troll, I really want to understand why people love sports so much.
I was raised in a family where neither of my parents are athletic nor watch sports, so I grew up not knowing what and how to appreciate about sports. For me (no offense), the idea of watching sports in front of a TV and getting excited about it just seems to be incomprehensible to me. People like TV series because of their plots, people like sci-fic movies mainly due to the high-quality and excitign scenes. What about sport channels? What do sports have to offer? Also, if you're watching a soccer game, both teams may not even score one point after all. Then, what is the point of watching it?
Also, some people get upset when their favorite team lost the game. What is the rationale behind it? Those players are not your family members nor friends, what is the point of getting upset for something that will not impact your life whatsoever. For me, I'm a tech fan, especially Apple, but I wouldn't be upset if Apple decides to stop producing new iPhones.
Lastly, people pay hundreds and thousands of dollar just to go see a game they like. WHY? Wouldn't the result be the same if you just watch it at home?
I'm really trying to learn about sports because I feel like there's something that I'm missing out. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could offer me a good answer!
