Is it better to pay an iPhone in full or finance it?

I'm buying an iPhone 7 plus soon but it will total out to over $800 after taxes. I have the money but i'm also trying to save up for school so I'm not sure if financing through Apple would be a good alternative?

Something else to consider… If you have a functional smartphone, you may want to wait for the new iPhone to come out. Most carriers offer very good deals when trading in a good older phone when buying a new one. Verizon was offering about $500 for older smartphones when purchasing a new iPhone 7. Those deals only last about a month, but that's $500 off the $800 price of a new iPhone. Now you only have to pay for the phone service and the remaining balance spread over 24 months. Again, if you have a functional smartphone, wait and see if you can get more than it's worth by trading it in for a new phone.

If you're trying to save for school, spread the payments over two years with one of the carriers. The monthly payment should not be that much… About $35 plus tax. You'll be able to put some money away in savings or investments, without having to lay down $800 right now.

What is the interest rate? Why waste money paying interest? Technically you are not saving if you are carrying short term debt.

Pay cash upfront if you can, and get cell phone insurance or AppleCare Plus, unless you can afford to pay cash again, to replace the phone should it get lost, stolen or destroyed, 24 hours after you buy it.

If the only way you can afford that phone, is to make monthly installments, you can't afford the phone if you do not also get cell phone insurance or AppleCare Plus, allowing you to pay a deductible to replace the phone should it get destroyed during your first 2 years of use. If you don't, you can't afford the phone (any phone for that matter).

  • Will I be able to get the IPhone 5 on finance? As I'm sure your aware the iPhone 5 is around the corner, although I don't think I'm alone in saying I don't have £600 lying around! Will there be anyone offering a pay monthly scheme just for the handset NOT a phone contract in the UK?
  • Why do we have to pay full price to replace a lost sprint iphone? My bestfriend is on a plan with her boyfriend and she lost the phone. Today she had to pay 728 to get a new one. I know that sprint does not cover lost phones but why can't we pay regular price to replace the lost ones
  • Why do I have to pay full price for T- Mobile iPhone 5? Ok so I went to the tmobile store to upgrade my old basic phone for the new iPhone 5 16gb and the rep told me that I had to pay the full cost ($579, i believe). On the ad it shows $99 for the 16gb! The plan I have right now is the Shared Classic Unlimited-Talk + Text, so I don't know if the plan is the problem or what? I also have no data added. Maybe that's why. Anyways if someone could help me I would really appreciate it.
  • Should I buy the iphone 6 plus with cash or finance it? Right now I have about $10k in bank and am in college where I don't really have any expenses. Should I spend $780 outright for the iphone 6 or should I take advantage of their 12 month no interest financing offer for the iPhone 6? I'm thinking this would be a good idea since I have no credit history and maybe this would be a good time to establish credit as I plan on buying a car next year. What do you think?
