Plugged in an EZ Connect, now laptop doesn't have internet without it?

My sister had an old computer in her room that we're getting rid of now. She handed me something she didn't know what it was, and I told her I'd plug it into my computer and see what happened (bad idea).
It says on it SMC EZ Connect and I installed the driver software etc etc and I told her that I didn't know exactly what you use it for (still don't). I unplugged it and turned my laptop off. A few days later I went to use it and it said it didn't have any connections available and the icon was different. It used to be bars, and even when I didn't have a connection then it just had an x by the bars. Now it was a computer with a plug beside it and an x.
I knew my wi-fi was working because my sister's laptop and all of our iphones/ipods were working fine with it. I then thought to plug the EZ Connect back in and of course, the icon went back and I connected to the internet fine.
The question is, how do I get it back to being able to connect to the wi-fi without it?

(I know that it was stupid to plug it in without knowing what it was, but it's already happened now.)
Also, I'm not completely stupid about computers, but I don't get everything either, so please explain it simply if you can haha.

Computer>network>select normal wireless driver
or depending on your computer go into network settings.
I haven't been a pc owner in ages, but i use them enough to assume this is the fix.

Quick search for SMC EZ Connect shows that it a USB wireless adapter.

Windows: open "Network Connections" or "Network and sharing center". Look for wireless connections, one is probably "Disabled", enable that one and disable the SMC.
