Presents for a student graduating from college?

So I'm trying to figure out christmas present ideas for my daughter. She's 22 and just had her birthday so she got most of what she wanted than. Each year I get her at least one big gift about for around $150. The thing is she's pretty good with money and just buys something when she needs it and so is very hard to shop for. She's very into technology and academic things, but when I mentioned one year about a barnes and nobles gift certificate, which I thought she would love, she mentioned that she didn't bother buying books there anymore and just bought things on amazon. Another year I mentioned a kindle and she said she was saving up to buy an ipad and not to bother getting her one because she'd rather buy the ipad herself. She's graduating this year so I want to get her something she can use after college.

I just ended up giving her money for her birthday because she mentioned there were a few things she wanted on amazon for her birthday and said she would just order them herself. I don't want to do that for Christmas because it seems so impersonal. She's really not into clothes or makeup so anything fashion related wouldn't be good. I also want to avoid gift certificates. She has a laptop, ipad, and iphone and has mentioned to me that she is more than content with her things and doesn't need any other technology related things.

Any gift ideas would be great. I'm really stuck on this. It almost seems like I don't know my own daughter anymore because her tastes seem to be moving more and more online and her interests seem harder and harder to pin down.

Tough one. How about a $50 Amazon gift certificate, $50 iTunes gift certificate (can also be used for iBooks), and a restaurant gift certificate?

I'm a big fan of old school and sentimental. I got a beautiful gold Parker Pen for my graduation, and a charm bracelet with a graduation cap on it. And unlike an iPad, I will keep them forever.

What about a 100% silk scarf?

  • What's the best laptop for an incoming college student? I'm going to college this fall and I'm torn between a laptop like the dell xps 13 or the Macbook air 13'. I really like the touchscreen option for the dell, but I like apple products, even though I've only ever used an iPad and iPhone. I might use products like photoshop and blendr for fun. I'm so torn. Are MacBooks easy to get used to? Is a touch screen helpful? Which laptop do I get?
  • What's the best camera for a college student? I'm looking for a decent camera under $250 for college. I don't really like using my iPhone as a camera because the pictures aren't great. My main priority is low-light. I don't need a lot of features, just a good camera that takes nice pictures, especially in low-light. Right now I'm leaning towards the Sony Cybershot DSC WX150 (slightly above my price range) or a Canon Powershot 510.
  • Is it possible for an entering college student to realistically survive without a smartphone? (Ranting WELCOME)? I currently have a smartphone (iPhone SE) that is badly cracked, and I've gotten the opportunity to get a new one, which happens to be, a dumbphone. I'm entering college in a few days, with a super high powered, functions I'll probably never use laptop, could I realistically survive in college without a smartphone? Please give the hard truth REAL details… Feel free to rant!
