Problems with iphone 5s?

I recently purcahsed my first iphone a few months ago online. The website is called swappa.com and I purchased a used iphone 5s for $100. I can't afford a new iphone and can only afford something in the under $200 range. Ever since I got my iphone, I have problems with the battery life draining very fast. Within 3 hours the battery is drained. Also sometimes the phone will randomly shut off when the battery level is at 40 to 50 percent and display a red battery icon that incorrectly indicates the battery is exhausted. Is this a common problem with older iphones? As apple brings out new iphones, do they make the older iphones battery levels drain quickly to try to make you upgrade your phone? Also since I can't afford the newest model, what is the best older iphone model to purchase that works better? Does an iphone 7 or iphone 8 work better with a stronger battery than a 5s?

I have been buying used Samsung phones several times and I'm very happy with them. Gazelle.com. I have a used S7 and I have no desire to buy the newest phone.

The Lithium-ion batteries in cell phones lose their charge capacity as they age. The more use they get, the quicker it happens.

Assuming normal use, the loss is small for the first 2-3 years, then the curve gets steeper. It's not unusual that a 5s would only see a couple of hours of life on a charge.

You can get the battery replaced, but the problem with iphones is that battery replacement is difficult for the end user, and expensive.

If you're on a tight budget, I'd recommend you not choose iphones. In terms of value (performance/features per dollar) they're one of the worst options available.

But if you have to have an Apple logo on the back of your phone for some reason, and you want decent battery life, what matters most isn't the model number, it's how much use the battery has gotten. Newer models would (generally) have less use, but that's not always true. You might find a heavily-used new model, or an old model which has recently received a battery-replacement. So, it all depends.

Everything considered, probably cheaper to just get the battery replaced on your existing phone than buy a new one. Not cheap… Just cheaper than buying another phone.

Lithium batteries have a limited lifetime. Buy a replacement battery.

  • Will there be any problems if i use an iphone 5s digitizer in an iphone 5c? I have a digitizer that belongs to an iPhone 5s and will like to use it to replace a broken iPhone 5c digitizer, will there be any issues with performance or aesthetics?
  • Problems with otterboxes and white iPhone 4? I think I read somewhere that people are having trouble with otterboxes not fitting the white iPhone 4 properly. It it true? Why doesn't it fit right? So would you suggest the black iPhone 4 instead?
  • Problems sending SMS using iPhone? Have a question for iphone. Have any of you encountered the same SMS being sent multiple times to the same number (at the exact same time)? The recipient only received the msg once but when the bill comes, I'm charged for the same message about 4 times as their records show the message has been sent four times. Is it a phone software problem or a problem with the phone company's network? Would appreciate any input from you guys.
  • My iPhone 4 having problems with audio when video taping? Ok so I have had this phone for 2 months now and it's just now having this issue. When I record sound and other things it's fine except when I record video on my phone this sound is barely audible. I mean you still hear it but barely. Also anything else where sound around me and my voice I can hear it fine. So what's wrong with it and what should I do about it?
