Question about upgrading my iPhone with Sprint?

The last time I upgraded my phone, I got the iPhone 5c, and it was a flat $99 when I extended my contract another 2 years.
I've never had to deal with the extra phone payments each month that most of my friends and coworkers have (they have way newer phones, lol).
So, my question is this… What can I expect when I upgrade? I'll be upgrading to the iPhone XR.
I realize there will be an extra 30-some dollars, and probably an upgrade fee. Anything else? What kind of case do you recommend? I'm leaning toward a wallet case. Do they give good protection?

You can expect, what is the CURRENT, options that Sprint offers for their upgrades. So like everyone else, you will need to ASK when you decide to upgrade about what YOUR Options are.

Some upgrades will be based on promotional offering.

Some based plans and phonw bundles, that are basically contract based on paying for the phone/plan, over time, and at the end of the time the phone is yours.

If still available, there's their lease plan, where you pay for 24 to 30 months, X price, after that time you turn in the phone for a new lease and phone.

None of the big 4 carriers discount phones any more, so I doubt you will get a phone for $99 and pay the plan for 2 years or more, unless you got into a Upgrade Forever Plan that is grandfatered to you. Which if so, may limit your phone options. And to get the phone's you want, forces you to give up your grandfathered plan.
