Recording guitar on a iPhone?
What is the best method for recording an electric guitar on a iPhone 5? I don't want to spend a lot, because I don't need it to be professional quality, just something for me and my band to send out to try and get a few gigs.
What do I buy to plug the guitar into the phone, what is a good app and should I run it through the amp first or just straight into the phone?
I'd try downloading Audacity onto a computer. There's not a lot that can be done with an iphone. Audacity is free and a pretty good program. My band and I use it to record our demos and its worked pretty well so far.
I agree, download audacity, pick up a mic, and record the stuff. It works well for rougher recordings and its free!
You are going to have really bad quality just using an iPhone or Audacity. You need a DAW and an Audio Interface which costs money.
For the audio interface, check Guitar Center, here is a link to help you narrow down your results.

I currently use the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, but you can choose whatever you want.
For the DAW, here is a list, though some Audio Interfaces come with preloaded software, but they are the very basic version.
Different DAW's.
Ableton
ACID
Cubase
Cakewalk SONAR
Logic (Mac only)
Studio One
REAPER (this cheap and probably good to start with though you should still look what is best for you)
- Where to find guitar chords? I bought an acoustic guitar yesterday and want to learn the chords. But I can't find a website or Iphone app that will give me all of the chords in one go so I don't have to go searching again. Any ideas?
- When tuning a guitar do you hold a fret? When you tune an acoustic guitar do you have to hold a fret down while you tune? When i tune to drop c or standard do i have to hold any of the frets or do i leave the strings open while i tune? I have an iphone app tuner if it helps Thanks, I was doing it right then. My high e string never gets picked up.
- What is this guitar technique called? I see it in modern metal, but even Metallica has used it in the past You basically alternate between palm muted (usually) open notes on the low E, and clean notes on the A (generally on frets 5, 7, 8, 10, 12 depending if you're in dropped tuning or not Am I rambling or am I making sense? Is there a name for this type of riff? here's an example, hopefully this comes out right (on iPhone not desktop) A---7---8 E-0---0---0---0--- --- hopefully you get the gist:/
- What is a good free guitar tuner for the iphone? (i'm a beginner)? My friend just let me have his guitar because i wanna learn. It's a cheap guitar but i just wanna use it to learn the basics, Til i can afford a much much better one. Right now it's really out of tune and i'm having trouble tuning it.
