Restore new iPhone with only some backup?
My old Iphone 4 which was 32GB was stolen and so I bought a new iPhone 4 but its only 4GB. When I try to restore it with my old iphone's backup it says its incompatible and I'm assuming this is because there's too much memory needed for the smaller space. Is there a way I can only put my contacts on to save memory?
Well first off the iPhone was never available in 4gb. You probably mean the 8gb iPhone. In that case when you update the software to 5.1.1 than you may use iCloud to sync your contacts, calendars, email, find my iPhone, and more. With iCloud all the information is online and on the internet so it doesn't take up much memory.
- When you restore an iphone from itunes backup does it restore messages? I need to restore my iPhone 4S in iTunes, will I lose my messages or will it leave the messages from my most recent back up?

Is there anything I can do to get them back on my phone (they are still on my iPad mini), without using my Mac?

I originally synced my dads iphone (business phone) with my macbook pro and we now have an imac and i need to update the phone on this computer (iMac) to ios 6. I did the backup and then i clicked update but it said "it will erase all data when you update'. If i click continue after the update can i restore the phone from the backup? If so how do i do this? It is crucial that i do this right because i can't loose my dads business info and contacts.
