Roaming and Wi-Fi charges abroad

So I'm a bit confused at the moment with roaming and Wi-Fi. I'm abroad right now staying at my relatives house and both my iphone and iPad are connected to the house Wi-Fi and also put on aero plane mode. Will I still be charged even though I've got both of these on? Also if I'm not connected to the Internet but just use photos and no go on the Internet, will I still be charged? Thanks

Added (1). I was able to connect to a Wi-Fi while using aero plane mode.

You can't pick up Wi-Fi in airplane mode! It turns off all means of transmitting and receiving data. Turn off airplane mode - Wi-Fi - data roaming and mobile data. If you just use the camera you will not be charged.

Wi-Fi via relatives IS free (UNLESS CHORES ARE INVOLVED)

Roaming is using your phone in another country AS IF your in you home country
Roaming cost an arm & leg as everything is INTERNATIONAL ie routed back to home country then back to the country you are in

Think Wi-Fi as plugging in a terminal phone / laptop to somebody else's internet they pay

As long as you don't USE your phone to connect voice/ text/ www you are not Roaming or using phone services abroad
