Sad for not getting anything for Christmas?

I really don't think I should be not happy for not getting anything for Christmas. I have a phone (mind you not something expensive like an iPhone), and a cheap old laptop which works. My mom is a single mother and my brother is in first year university. My brother has an expensive laptop ($1300) an iPhone and now he got a new iPad air ($700). He says he needed the laptop a year ago for university when the year started (it now has), and now he says he needs an iPad for taking notes… Which is what he said the laptop was for… My mother does what she can, we're not rich but, we have a roof over our heads and food to eat. I have a phone and a laptop that works. I don't know why I feel down about not getting any presents because I really don't need anything else… Maybe its just because I see my brother getting anything he asks for (if he says its for "school") .

It just sucks to see everyone at school with new stuff and when they ask me what I got I always say nothing.

Added (1). I know I should be greatful for what I DO have, which I'm… But this just sucks… :/

He who is not contented with what he has would not be contented with what he would like to have. More "stuff" will not make any more happy, it is how you treat yourself and others that will give you happiness.

It's just human nature I guess. You're upset because you see that you have different endings than others. You see everyone else getting what they want and of course that's gonna cause a reaction. It's not like you're acting spoiled. You're just realizing the truth.

They probably can't afford it

and bought you something

but tell her
how you feel

sometimes parents do not realize the pain and disappointment they cause to their children

May I ask, how old are you? That probably has alot to play in her decision. Your brother is in college, most likely using the laptop for homework/programming/design/whatever his field is, and the iPad for taking notes. That is a great setup to use for college, as writing with pencil and paper takes too long, and the laptop (Which i'm going to guess is a high end gaming laptop/macbook) is too heavy to carry around.

And, about your age, if you are 14 or younger, you don't need a phone!

Like you said, be happy for what you have like a roof over your head and food. You don't understand what it is like not to have that. Just know you're lucky.
