Scammed! Can i get police involved?

A local techman in my hometown has been fixing my family's phones for months, he's fixed my same phone screen 3 times. I recently got a new phone and decided to sell him old one. Because it was broken. He told me he'd fix it then sell it and compensate me when he is finished. I know he has sold it because my new iphone told me when someone new logged into my old phone. I gave him my phone to fix march 15 and it is now the 30th he refuses to reply to me on facebook and the number he gave me is saying wrong number. I have screenshots of his promises to me. What should i do

That is civil. You would need to sue him.

Sue. Small claims court. No attorney required.

Evidence, you'd need evidence that he scammed you like that. He was supposed to give you a paper or 2 explaining the ownership of the phone and its transference things, and it is likely that some agreement is on that paper too, other than just your 2 agreement.

Before you do that go directly to him and demand that he give you the phone back. If he won't/can't report it to the police.

Yes get the police involved

Yes, you can lawyer up. If something is signed (even digitally) and dated, it is a document than can be used in court. I would at least consult a lawyer and see what they say (it may be worth it or not). Worst case scenario you loose out of $100.

Log onto the old phone and remotely kill it and text them you'll restore it after you get paid.

It is not a police matter. Even if it was, the police could not enforce "your agreement" with the phone man. You gave him your old phone - willingly. He told you he would compensate you once it has been sold. If he now refuses to pay you, your recourse would be to sue him. However, the initial cost of a lawsuit will likely far exceed the value of your old phone. That means, tell your family what he did. Hopefully, it will get back to him and shame into paying you something for your old phone. If he still won't pay you, live & learn. When you have something to sell, sell it yourself.

You know someone logged into the old phone. You DO NOT know who. For all you know, HE did as part of testing his repairs BEFORE offering it for sale.
Either way, this is a CIVIL case, not a police issue. There's literally NOTHING the police can do.

  • Would the police get involved for an expensive stolen object by a minor? My mom bought me glasses($400). They are "real" and the lenses are made to fit my eye vision. I'm in middle school and a high school boy who has a reputation for stealing things (ipods, iphones etc) stole my glasses while he was hanging out with me. Will the police be willing to get involved in this? I live in California. I really need them back, they're expensive and I can barely see anything during class… Or life
  • Is there anyway I can get my money back or find the person who scammed me? I got offered a iPhone 6 for £200 from a company in London and all I had to do was pay some money and I d have it in a week (today) and now everytime I ring up the number isn't found but the man gave me some bank details and a name so is there anything I can do
  • I was scammed by people to use my credit to get iphones and now I'm in debt? These people told us that if our credit was good and they helped us sign up for two year contacts and they said they'd pay for the phones and give us $50 per phone. They said we could just not pay the bills and it would be fine but now I'm getting the bills. Is this going to f up my credit? Should I just pay them off in full? I already canceled the service and reported them stolen.
  • Can police get involved on ebay? I sold my old iphone on ebay and just sent it first class buyer says he has not received item demanding a refund which i won't give him and is now threating to get police involved
