Scammed on Craigslist, file a police report? Money back?
So I saw this ad on craigslist. It was for an iPhone 5 for 420. I couldn't meet up with him since I had work, so my boyfriend did. I quick payed my boyfriend 500 so he could just go to an ATM and pay the guy cash. The guy texted me the address and he agreed to meet up.
He met up with the guy at a certain Walgreens. My boyfriend inspected the phone and put his own SIM card in to see if it works and it did. The guy also showed him the phone was clean and did not have a bad imei/gsm. (The guy showed him through a checker somehow.) My boyfriend then went inside the Walgreens and withdrew 420 and gave him money.
When my boyfriend went home, he tried his sim again and it wouldn't work. He called tmobile and he said the phone was blacklisted. I tried telling the guy that it wouldn't work and I asked him why, but no response. Called him numerous times, but no response. Said I wanted my money back, no response.
I know his name and how he looks like (found him on facebook), and I have his landline and cell phone, I know its his number for sure because I called his voicemail and he said his name in his message. I still have my call logs and texts from him. My boyfriend knows what kind of car he drives and the color. My boyfriend could also pull up that he withdrew $420 from that chase ATM at the Walgreens they met.
Can I file a police report and get my money back?
Added (1). He deleted the post on craigslist, but he has another one up of the same type of phone but different carrier, I know it's him because its the same number I have that I called when I saw his other ad that I replied to (before he deleted it).
Added (2). Ps. My boyfriend was with the guy the whole time. The guy even went inside Walgreens with him. He kept a close on on him too since the guy was holding my boyfriends phone.
That's a classic trick. This is what happens. The seller brings 2 phones. A working one & a stolen one. They show the "buyer" the working one then when the buyer is not paying attention they swap phones. Usually they let you test out their phone which obviously works. That way you never notice the difference between the two. People do it for cars to. They have a car that won't pass smog so they smog a car thats exactly the same thing so when the buyer goes to register it they can't & when they take to get smoged it won't pass & their out thousands of dollars. You can try reporting it to the police. Depending on how busy they are or how much they care they may or may not do something. If the guy posts again have a friend arrange to meet with him. Then when your friend is with the guy you or your boyfriend block him in so he can't leave. He can't call the cops. What's he gonna say? "I ripped them off $420 so they won't let me leave"?
Hustled! File a report try and get an undercover sting on the guy!

- How to find the thief? Should i report this to police office of my city? I bought an iphone 5 from a guy that I found on craiglist for $300. He said it was factory locked not user locked. Factory locked can be unlocked for like $75 but user locked can't be unlocked. When i took it to store it was user locked and i can't use it anymore. I googled the phone number but can't find any history of the number. It looks like that guy stolen it and sold it to me. Should i report to police? Can they do something for me? I live in los angeles.
- Help ebay buyer threatened to report me to police? I buy and sell iPhones. I buy from craigslist, and resell on ebay. Now the problem that I had was that the phone worked for 3 months, but now it is locked. The iPhone was new when I sent it and now the buyer wants his money back. Ebay and paypal no longer protects him. Will the police do anything? I sold this item without no intensional of scamming anyone or to take advantage.
