Help ebay buyer threatened to report me to police?
I buy and sell iPhones. I buy from craigslist, and resell on ebay. Now the problem that I had was that the phone worked for 3 months, but now it is locked. The iPhone was new when I sent it and now the buyer wants his money back. Ebay and paypal no longer protects him. Will the police do anything? I sold this item without no intensional of scamming anyone or to take advantage.
Did you say or write to the buyer that it was brand new?
did you make any statements about how long it would work?
the police won't care, unless they have reason to believe that you are dealing in stolen phones.
It sounds like somebody got the phone on a contract and didn't pay it. Now its locked it can't be unlocked next time get it unlocked first then it can't be blocked. As for the one you sold i would refund the guy its only fair the positive feedback will help your phone sales as well.
The police will not get involved. They will tell him that it's a civil matter and he will have to sue you.
He is just bluffing with his threats to report you to the police.
If you do not have an exchange policy, that's there fault for not going with someone who has one, If the phone was working when they got it, it is not your responibility.
If you did not provide any sort of guarantee or replacement policy the buyer can't do anything against you. Most probably the problem with the buyer phone is that he tried to update the phone firmware and after that phone gets locked to its original carrier.
If you bought something and then resold it without knowing its history, then you must take some responsibility that these phones may be on contract- or even unworkable/faulty or stolen
Even though the dispute has timed out you should do the right thing and take it back for a refund as it is not fit for purpose
The buyer can do a chargeback anyway if they paid with a CC
A report to the police or Trading Standards may be investigated

- Can a buyer lie on Ebay/Amazon about receiving an item? For example I sell and IPhone, and ship it phone with delivery confirmation and signature. What if, after delivery the buyer decides lie by to filing a claim against me saying that the box was empty?
