Setting up a CCTV system through Virgin Media broadband?
I've recently bought and installed a CCTV system with 4 fixed cameras and a 2Tb DVR. I can see the view from the cameras through my iPhone when I'm logged on to my home Wi-Fi but I can't see them when I'm away from home. I think it's all down to IP settings and Ports but to me it's all gobbledegook!
Is anyone able to help me set it all up if I pay them a fee? I.e. Provide me a little tech support? I'm certain that it would take anyone who knows what they are doing about 10 mins to sort it all out.
I'm in Stafford if anyone's local!
All the very best
You have to configure your Internet Router to allow traffic-in. By default, the router's in-built Firewall only allows sessions to begin with traffic-out requests only and denies all traffic-in sessions.
Typically:
- You have to assign a fixed IP to your DVR.
- Configure the Router settings to allow traffic on specific ports (for ex: 9000, 90001, 9002) and direct thoses requests to the IP of the DVR.
- Use a Dynamic DNS service to access your DVR (if your Internet IP is not static)

- Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues? My wireless works fine with my iPad and iPhones. But then I try to connect it to my Windows 7 desktop, and it says that it's experiencing connectivity issues? I have the Ethernet cable hooked up to the main router, then my wireless, then into the computer. I've tried restarting them both at the same time, but it's still having the same issue?
- What Router do i need for my Mobile Broadband to become Wi-Fi? Basically i have purchased a Mobile Broadband USB stick from EE to share it with my iPhone at work (i get no signal at work with O2 and i've only just started new contract/job). What router will i need to make the mobile broadband a Wi-Fi connection for my iphone?
- Virgin media contract number? Do vm have a number you can call to see how much data etc you have left on a contract? Or a website or something? I'm in the uk I think I've gone over and I need to know
- Tesco broadband. Can I get a stronger Wi-Fi signal? I have Tesco unlimited broadband. It works fine but was wondering if anyone else has trouble with a weak signal when you are say 10-15 meters away through a couple of walls? My laptop picks up 2 out of 5 bars in signal but my iPhone 5 gets nothing at all. Could I upgrade my router? And if so, what would be a good one? Is there such a thing as a signal strength chart or anything like that? Just thought I'd ask.
