Settings for verizon iphone on cruise?

I would like to know how the settings need to be set to be able to receive and text out without incurring roaming charges, just the charges for the actual texting…

Under settings, and then general, there's cellular data, and roaming. Cellular data should be on? And voice and data roaming off?

that's all i need to know…

keep searching it, but don't come up with this exact question…

Added (1). I just wanted to know the answer to my question… I must have texting… I must stay in touch with my home… I just want to know the settings…

Added (2). I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT AVOIDING CHARGES! I don't want my email to come throiugh… Just phone and text!

IF, you turn your phone on while on a ship at sea you will get a signal through the ship's cell tower and be charged a LOT of money for getting texts and well and phone calls. Best advice is turn your phone off until you get to a port and then turn it on to get texts and message from a local carrier. Otherwise your phone bill will be. HUGE.

All cellular activity while on a cruise ship goes through the ship's towers. There's no way to avoid it. You will be billed (through your regular carrier) the special charges for all activities on your cell phone, whether it's voice, data, or text. These are considerably higher than the normal charges.

At Sea ships use Satellite Communications. Most ships have the ability to receive Calls/Texts on Cell Phones as well as Wi-Fi. However, it is VERY expensive.

You will be charged about $0.50 for each text. That is plain text, picture texts are additional. There's no way around this fee while you are at sea. As no cell phone plan covers you while you are on a cruise ship. You will need to have Cellular Roaming on, but Roaming Data off. In order to receive/send texts.

Your cheaper option would be to contact Verizon to add an International plan that allows texting, and then when you are in port you can text/call under that plan. The cost of the plan will vary, but it could be anywhere from $10-$50/month depending on the exact plan and countries you are going to.

You could also do Wi-Fi, but again depending on the ship and how many minutes you purchase you are looking at anywhere from about $0.33 to $1.00 per MINUTE you are on the Wi-Fi connection.

OK so you just Want an answer.
You have no choice. No service or pay up up for the ships satellite service.
Various rates depending on usage ranging from expensive (sign up for trip duration) to National Debt per minute for intermittent usage.

You can't avoid it without being charged. To not be charged, you have to turn your phone off or turn off all 3G/4G and cellular data. You will be charged if you want to text. No matter what.

There are no settings which will accommodate your avoidance of legitimate charges by the cruise company. So, now you know all you need to know. Be prepared to pay regardless of how you set your phone. If you do not sign up with the cruise ship, you will not makes calls or text. PERIOD.
