Share Wi-Fi 50 feet to a flat?
My brother is due to move into a flat directly over the road from my house(50 feet).
I have 20 mb broadband in my house and a modem and wireless router.
My brother would like a wireless network in his flat for his apple tv and iphone.
Is there a way for me to share my broadband with him not using cables as thats not possible.
I have direct line of sight window to window with no obsticles.
It should be possible. If necessary, the antenna on the router can be fitted with an extension cable to position it in a clear position and the same applies to the Wi-Fi adapter on the computer if it has a detachable antenna.
I don't think that's possible, I think he's gonna have to get his own broadband. Sorry
If you have a direct line of sight it should be no problem to reach him with a Wi-Fi antenna. Set up the antenna (Perferably a Yagi) you can buy them on Ebay for cheap and hang it outside. In certain conditions the wireless signal might be poor but it's probably doable with a little time and high-gain directional antenna.
That's the one time a Wi-Fi repeater (range extender) may be practical.
If your brother puts one in a good spot in his flat so it can access your system, he will have a full signal from the repeater within his flat.
You can get the things easily enough, either online or even Argos - see the links below.
(I don't advise these for within a home as they slow things down slightly & Homeplug works better - but for working across a road they are ideal.)
- Will it stay waterproof up to 8 feet? I'm looking at a lifeproof case for my iphone 5. They are rated up to 6.6 feet for 1 hour but do you think it will stay waterproof at 8 feet?
- Why my iPhone 4S goes flat on 19%? Once it hits 19% it goes straight to 1% and switches off. Once I turn it back on it says it's still on 19% but continues to switch off
- Why does the iPhone 4 lifeproof case only go up to 6.6 feet underwater? I'm going to buy one of these case but I'm just curious to what happens if you go further than 6.6 feet?
- Is it safe to use a 10 feet long data sync cable on the iPhone? I just bought a 10 feet long cable for my iPhone 4. But it just occurred to me that it could be harmful for the battery if power is lost at such a long distance. Power/technology experts: Would you recommend not using this cable for the well-being of my phone?
