Should I get a Roku 3 or Apple TV (3rd Gen)?

I just bought a Roku 3 and am mostly happy with what I have gotten. However, there are some things about the Apple TV that I like. Here is a little back ground:

My wife and I use this device as our primary form of TV. We subscribe to Hulu+, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, HBO Goand Spotify; all of which are on the Roku 3. However, Roku 3 has not updated their Netflix channel to include Profiles, something that is highly irritating since my profile is secondary to my wife's. Also, we have HBO Go through Comcast, which apparently is a deal breaker. Other than that, however, we're happy with the Roku.

The Apple TV presents some good options though. I have an iPhone 4s and I can AirPlay most things that it doesn't have that Roku does (at SD quality, unfortunately). Also, it has WatchESPN which Roku doesn't.

I'm torn. I know Apple is supposed to update the Apple TV in October, but there haven't been many rumors. Any advise?

Personally, I love my Roku. After all, saving a thousand a year is a big deal.

The primary benefit of Apple is if you've already gone full Apple - Mac, iPhone, iTunes. If so, go with the Apple TV. If not, Roku is the best for you.

I'm right there with you on the Profiles thing. I created profiles on the web as soon as they were announced. But I'm still waiting for Netflix to update their Roku channel to include them. I'm hoping it will be sometime soon, because I'm tired of all the chick flicks showing up in my recommendations…

  • Would Apple Iphone 5 cases fit on the Apple IPod touch 5th gen? I was just wondering, because I really like the cases for iphone instead of the ipod, and I have a IPhone 5 and a bunch of cases so it would be easier, if it is.
  • Where can I watch Doctor Who on my 3rd gen iPhone? I have a 3rd gen iPod, are there any sites I can watch doctor who on. My computers not working so this is all I can watch it on. I mean either 9th 10th or 11th doctor, one of those. And a site that has all the episodes of a good amount thanks.
  • What's the difference between the Roku 2 & NetGear Push2TV? I'm debating on which one to buy. They're both going to be $60 on Black Friday and I don't know which one to get. With the Roku I can stream from my iPhone 5, but I don't know about my Toshiba Satellite P55 A5312. With the NetGear I know I could stream from my laptop, but not my phone. Which one can offer more, even if I have to sacrifice the other?
  • Roku vs Apple TV which is better for $$? I currently have a mac, iphone and ipad. So i orginally thought i should get the apple tv.burt if the roku does the same thing and is cheaper should i just go with that? Can i stream/mirror from my computer (like websites etc) from my mac to either of them(i know i can with iphone and ipad)? Pros and cons of both please!
