Should I sell to a pawn shop?

I have an iPad mini in great condition. I could use the money but they're offering $150 which from my understanding is good for a pawn shop. However I have been trying to sell it on Craigslist for $200. I'm having a hard time deciding if it is a good deal for me to just take the $150. I have a hard time letting it go because it is in SUCH GREAT condition. I've only had it for a week and received it as a gift but since I have an iPhone and laptop, I don't have much use for it. Any advice?

A pawn shop is almost never a good place to "sell" an item. This is because you're not technically "selling" it. You are taking out a loan and leaving the item as collateral. They put it in their vault and wait until the date the loan is due. If you don't pay the loan (plus interest) then they take it out of their vault and try to sell it at a profit. Their goal is to sell it for more than they paid you. If they didn't get pretty good at judging how much they can sell things for, they would soon go out of business. Let me guess: They're not going out of business, right?

This was a gift. What's the hurry? Leave it in the original packaging and hold out for a buyer who will pay you what it's worth to you.

A good rule of thumb is they give you 50% of the value, but then again its easier to make the sale so time is worth something too.
