Should I trade my iPhone 5s for a nexus 5?
If I sell my 5s on ebay I can get a nexus 5 and have $310 in profit. I'm not sure if its a good idea though because I love iMessage and like the idea of 64 bit processor but I hate how I can't download files off the internet and tweak the software. I also have an ipad too. I want a high performing smartphone.

You might get 310 in profit but not many people are willing to buy a nexus as many as there are iphone customers meaning the market value is less. You forgot to mention the memory in both, but I wouldn't for the reason above.
In my opinion, you should not sell your iphone and if you do, you should sell it when the newer one comes out. You will probably make a lot of money off your iphone even when a new one comes out because of the extremely high demand of iphones. You may lose some money, but iphones are worth it. No. Don't do that because later on, iPhone will retain its value. The nexus won't. Also you will lose the iCloud connection btwn your iPad and iPhone. Also iPhone is faster
