Should i update my iphone 3gs to ios 6.if yes then how its jailbroken?

Its showing no service and have ios 4.2.1 installed in it so i could no longer download apps on it… So should i upgrade it to ios 6 and if yes how to do it… Its jailbroken… And will it reduce the battery life?

Added (1). Its also having a no service issue… Will an update will solve it?

I guess you are using a locked iPhone that's why you are seeing no service however you can install iOS 6 by connecting the iPhone to iTunes and click on update. But the problem will continue as you are using locked iPhone. You can jailbreak by using redsn0w but it will reduce your battery life and phone performance would be little-bit slow
