Should iPhone owners be allowed to collect food stamps?

Land lines can be as low as $19.99/mo. The internet isn't a necessity.
What really bothers me is when I see people using government issued funds (stamps, cards, etc.) for things like steaks & lobsters.

Perhaps food stamp applicants should be more heavily inspected.

Since you can buy a lady of the night with your food stamp card, why not a iphone or two.

They're welcome to it. I support welfare programs mainly because it recirculates cash into the local economy.

Just seems wrong to me. I come from a family of really hard workers, and that makes me proud, but if I lost my job and had a family to feed, I would have to swallow my pride and collect food stamps as well. I know what you mean though. You are speaking of the many who are taking advantage and abusing the system. It is a shame indeed.

Not unless your boyfriend whom you never met mails you an iPhone and pays for your bill. In that case no! My mom finally got enough money to get us off welfare!

It always amazes me when someone talks about how they are struggling financially while they sit their playing on their iPhone at the same time.

The iphone costs just a few hundred dollars and depending on who's the provide, the monthly service bill can be near $60. The max you can make while receiving welfare is $1000, so there shouldn't be too much of a problem. If you can't pay it this time because of other bills, it gets cancelled, and gets reconnected for another month until the next due bill

What if someone bought and payed for that iphone whilst they were in work, and then lost their job? Should people have to sell everything they own before they are allowed to claim despite the fact they have likely payed taxes for years, which will cover any food stamps they receive 10 times over?

government assistance however should be enough to cover what people need not for luxury items if it is a regular occurrence that people receiving assistance can spend on luxury items then they probably need to be reduced.
