It depends on which iPhone you have.iOS 6.0 through 6.1.2 can be jailbroken. If you have an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S running those versions of iOS, You should be good to go. The jailbreak is called," Evasi0n". When iOS7 is released to the public, a jailbreak won't be released until a couple of months. So until then, i recommend staying jailbroken on iOS6. What would be the point? You'd lose it in the update anyhow.
I wouldn't recommend updating to iOS 7 anyhow. It is in beta form currently, meaning it would be slower, buggy, & could & more likely would break apps.

You should do the opposite and not jailbreak.
No need to jailbreak your phone, but you do need to register your device's UDID on http://www.instantudid.com/ before your update. If not, you won't be able to activate. It's only $5 and they did mine instantly.
- Updating jail broken iphone4 to iOS 7? My iPhone is jail broken (5.1.1) and yea sure it was fun but as you all know iOS 7 can out today and I would like to get it. By installing it through my phone and not my laptop. I know it will unjailbreak my phone (wich I want) but I heard it can get stuck with issues etc and would like to know what could possibly happen.
