SimCard Activation for United States?
I live in Canada and I'm planning to go to New York, My plan was to bring my phone device over there however I didn't want to do a international plan with my phone company as they are TOO EXPENSIVE! I wanted to get a "Pay As You Go" or "Cheap" plan with a SimCard just for ONE WEEK.
Does anyone know which carrier I can do this with?
And who supports the new IPhone 5 or IPhone in general? Also the phone company I'm with now is FIDO.
Any suggestions?
There are a few options for pre-paid SIM cards, however all have month long plans, so you would have 3 weeks of paid for but unused service. (However it would likely be cheaper).
Straight Talk and Net10 (Both owned by Tracfone) have prepaid BYOD SIM card programs that run around $50 per month, USD. SIMple mobile is about the same. The rub is that you would need to purchase one of their SIM cards for use, and none of those services have their SIMs ready for sale in most places. You would need to order online or over the phone and have a working US address to provide to ship the SIM card to.
The SIMs themselves run around $20, USD.
None support the iPhone 5 directly as they do not offer the nano-SIM (yet). You can trim a micro-SIM with some effort and skill, though. GSM iPhones are supported, however you must configure the phone yourself to make it work.
- Will I have to pay Vat on iphone? (from united states to ireland)? I'm a student studying abroad from the United States in Ireland, and I ordered the iphone 5 because I had the upgrade with my phone company there. I got it to delivered to my moms house in california. Now I'm wondering if she ships it to me as a gift, will I still have to pay VAT on it when it arrives? I'm not trying to pay like 200 *** dollars in VAT.
