Someone is going to give $500 to me on paypal.scam?
I listed my iphone on craigslist for $400 or best offer, this person I think I was talking to about trading phones since his fiance doesn't like htc one and wants her iphone again. But it didn't work out because I couldnt get the htc one to work on my plan with tmobile. Now I got a text from someone saying they'll offer $500 and want it soon for their fiance as a present and just need my paypal account email as soon as possible. Is there anyway I wouldnt be safe giving it to them?
Don't give it to them! They are trying to trick you. Who would buy an iPhone for 500 dollars anyways when you could a new one for so much cheaper. Also there's no safe way!
They r cheats.
It's a scam. ONLY a scammer offers MORE money - they look for people whose greed is stronger than their common sense
There are many variations of the Paypal scam which is why Craigslist, Gumtree, Kijiji, etc scam warnings pages specifically tell users to NEVER give out Paypal details, ONLY deal with people who can meet you in person and accept cash only
1 - this article explains the most common version which uses a spoofed email that only looks like it's from Paypal http://consumerist.com/2008/10/30/how-a-nigerian-steals-your-laptop/
2 - a version of #1 but the fake Paypal email will be for MORE than you asked for and you will be asked to wire the balance to the "shipper" or some other person through Western Union or Moneygram
3 - you get a spoofed Paypal email asking you to click a link to verify/accept the transaction, and that link leads you to a phishing site that looks exactly like Paypal's home page but by logging in, you just gave the scammers your account details so they can hack your account and use it to pay for items online
4 - they pay with a hacked Paypal account hoping you ship the item or they or their "mover" or "shipper" pick up the item before the real account holder discovers the theft, reports it to Paypal and Paypal withdraws the money from your account
5- Paypal ONLY protects you if YOU arrange the shipping to the buyer's verified address. Scammers know this but hope you don't. So they pay with their account then either send a "shipper" (scammer using another fake name) to pick up the item or they have you send to a fiance/son/friend/etc overseas or in another state Then once they have the item or you have sent it, they file a dispute with Paypal claiming their email and Paypal accounts have been hacked and there's an unauthorised transaction. Paypal contacts you asking for proof of delivery to the buyer's verified address. You won't have this as the scammer either picked up from you or shipped to an unverfied address, and Paypal refunds the money and the scammer keeps your item and resells it for cash
6 - With electronic items, scammers who have broken/damaged items scour the internet for the same make/model in other cities. They buy your item, pay with Paypal, then file a chargeback claiming the item doesn't work. They send you their broken one back and paypal refunds their money. With designer items, they buy your item, claim it's counterfeit, then send you a fake one back - whether it's a Rolex watch, Louis Vuitton handbag, Gucci wallet, etc
And once the scammers have your Paypal account details they will use password hacking software to hack your account to "pay" their next victim
You also NEVER send your Paypal details to anyone who wants to pay you anywhere. You need THEIR Paypal details so you can log on to Paypal.com, then click on Request Money, then Create Invoice and you enter THEIR details and Paypal issues an invoice to them. This way they can't pay you with a hacked account.
DO NOT respond to this scammer - they are trying to steal your phone
- When you give APPLE a defective IPHON do they give you a reconditioned one back? My IPHONE had a defect, still under warranty, so I took it to an Apple MAC store and after a few days they gave it back, supposedly repaired. Now the replaced IPHONE has a problem, different than the previous problem I'm now having a problem with the taking a photo. Do they just replace your phone with a reconditioned one they say no but?
- Paypal iphone scam. What do I do? Somebody has used my paypal account to pay for an iphone, and a dispute was opened and found in the seller's favour. neither the initial payment, nor opening of the dispute had anything to do with me. All I know is that I'm £500 down. what do I do?
- I think somebody is trying to scam me through paypal - how do I report this person? I'm selling my iPhone and put an advert online, and somebody responded to me by email that they wanted to buy it basically, and they want it sent to Nigeria and I gave him my paypal address to send payment too and I have received an email that looks like it is from paypal, it basically says the payment is pending and I should send out the goods. I think this is a scam. What do I do - how do I report this person?
- I had 'sold' my iphone x to someone for 1000$. They made a fake paypal and 'sent' me 1000$? The money disappeared right after saying I received it, after I shipped the phone out. Is there any way I can get my money back by contacting paypal?
