Someone stole cousin's iPhone 4S?
My older cousin got his iPhone 4S stolen. It must have dropped out of his pocket at work or at college. He already contacted the college and his workplace but there was no luck on finding it. My cousin does not have any tracking apps installed on it.
Questions:
- Can the iPhone 4S still be tracked down if the phone was shut off or if the micro sim card is removed? (I heard thieves commonly do this with stolen iPhones)
- The iPhone currently uses 3G and is on a GSM network. If the iPhone is on wi-fi or on 3G mode, can we track down the thief and pin-point the location of the device?
- Can Apple or Verizon actually track it down if the device is downloading apps from the app store or used for calling?
- Does the iPhone 4S have any security or tracking chips installed on it to track the thief easier?
- The iPhone is from Verizon, but can the thief can really unlock or jailbreak the phone?
- Is there a way to erase content in the iPhone 4S without actually having the phone in your hands? (To prevent personal information from being leaked. )
Please help since my older cousin is really bummed from the loss. (And he hates the new iPhone 5 design ).
- I don't believe you're carrier will be able to do such
- I don't believe that will make a difference either
- if you haven't already canceled service on the lost phone then Verizon may be able to tell you when calls from that phone have been made. The reason I believe so is because usually your paper bills list the actions that have been performed on the phone as well as times. I'm referring to texts and calls. I don't know about data usage for apps that were downloaded.
- I don't know exactly but the I've heard the "find my phone" feature on the iPhones have helps some people find their lost/stolen phone but it needs to be set up on the phone before it was lost.
- because its a Verizon phone if you report it lost or stolen it will no be able to be activated on Verizon because it will be registered in the system as lost/stolen. Verizon iPhones may be flashed over to another carrier but it will no longer be able to used on Verizon anymore.
- I believe the "find my iPhone" feature is able to lock, or wipe the phone of its data even without the phone in hand.
But all in all that feature needed to set up on the phone before it has been stolen.
Sorry my answer may have not been of much help but I noticed you had no responses so I figured I'd share any info I know.
It is not possible if the iphone is off, you can call the service to track it if the phone is on.

- Someone stole my iphone at school? Help someone stole my iPhone at school and i'm only 14 but the thing is i don't have any tracking apps on my phone is there a way to track your iPhone on someone else device or something thank you for the people who helped me.
- Someone stole my iPhone 5. What now? I went to a gig in Wales (almost 200 miles away) and someone stole my iPhone 5 from my bag. "Find my iPhone" won't work because my phones apparently offline so I'm guessing they've disconnected it or something. It's not insured. I'm back home and cancelled the sim and ordered a new one. Will I have to buy a new iPhone or will they let me restart my contract? I don't have the money for a new one ): I'm with Network 3
